An historic building set in lovely grounds, Giffordtown Village Hall is a community-owned, community-run centre providing a hub for the local hamlets of Giffordtown, Charlottetown, Edentown and Kinloch.

The Hall hosts many events throughout the year.  Regular activities are Scottish Country Dancing, Coffee Mornings and Belly Dancing. We also have a varied programme each year which may include a Halloween Hoolie, a Christmas Get-Together, a Cabaret Night, Open Gardens, history talks, soup lunches . . .

The Hall is available to hire for private functions only to local residents and their family, friends of residents and regular patrons.

The Jefferton Flag

The Jefferton Flag 01.jpg

At the annual Jefferton Market and Games, the Jefferton Flag was carried in front of the procession by the standard bearer.

The Flag is an extremely significant piece of social and political history and is exceptional for its state of preservation.  Dating from the 1830s, it celebrates the Great Reform Act of 1832.  It is a fine cotton banner measuring 1.7 by 2.6 metres.  It has a central painted panel of St Stephen's Chapel at the Palace of Westminster in London.  Henry Brougham, the Liberal Lord Chancellor, is using a whip to drive out a person who symbolises Toryism.  Earl Gray - who was Prime Minister - helps Brougham by sweeping out the Tory with a brush.  Looking on - holding a bag of money - is Joseph Hume, a Whig MP.

The words on the Flag read:

With broom and whip now keep aye clean,

St Stephen's Bonney floor.

Ne'er let corruption there be seen,

Nor Tories enter more.

In triumph we rais, the Flag that we bear,

We'll never be governed by knaves.

We'll jointly defend our rights without fear,

And never submit to be slaves.

Due to its historical value, the original Flag was donated to Fife Museums collection many years ago but there is now a full-scale replica hanging at the back of the stage in the Hall.
