The Hamlets
The Hamlets Community
We in the hamlets community are a vibrant population in the Howe of Fife, Scotland with a culture and heritage immersed in a tradition of rural and artistic pursuits. This is characterised by our self reliance and cooperation and our commitment to protecting the natural environment and sustaining our way of life. We are people who keep animals, grow our own food and flowers and follow artistic pursuits such as making our own music and entertainment and creating art and crafts. Although our written history dates back to the 11th century there is an abundance of evidence of earlier prehistoric Bronze and Iron Age settlements and burial cairns, suggesting an established community for millennia.
Our main settlements are the hamlets of Kinloch, Giffordtown, Charottetown and Edentown with our civic and recreational centre being the community owned and run, Giffordtown Hall at Charottetown crossroads, which for over one hundred years, has hosted all manner of events from weddings, dances and coffee mornings to public meetings, exhibitions and remembrance ceremonies. Despite being a mainly rural community of gardeners, growers, equestrian and livestock rearers we also have a tradition of cultivating and attracting talented artists, artisans and musicians to our picturesque and tranquil part of the Howe of Fife.
